Fly Like a Bird to Your Mountain
Two pale blue birds fly towards each other, each carrying a relief of a blue-and-green Chinese landscape on its back. The title comes from the Psalms: “Flee like a bird to your mountain.” To me, the mountain is a metaphor for escape, searching and shelter: home, an imagined refuge, or somewhere not yet reached. Yet the mountain on the bird’s back is a paradox: it is the distant place it must fly to, and something it always carries. Perhaps the safety we seek lies far away, or has been with us all along.
